Dudley Council commissioned Dudley CVS as part of the Start For Life Programme and Family Hub Network to deliver on the development of a new peer support offer for parents and caregivers in Dudley.
We offer FREE parent and carer emotional well-being workshops and drop-in surgeries which offer valuable support and resources for individuals navigating the challenges of parenting and caregiving.
Emotional wellbeing drop-in surgeries to offer a safe and supportive space where individuals can access immediate support and guidance for their emotional and mental health concerns. Here's what typically happens in such a setting
Drop-in surgeries are designed to be easily accessible, often without the need for appointments. This allows individuals to seek support when they need it most, without having to wait for scheduled appointments.
Confidentiality is usually maintained within the drop-in surgery setting, creating a safe environment for individuals to discuss their concerns openly without fear of judgment or repercussions.
The atmosphere is typically welcoming and non-judgmental, with trained staff or volunteers available to listen empathetically and provide support. The focus is on creating a space where individuals feel comfortable expressing their emotions and discussing their mental health challenges.
Upon arrival, individuals may be briefly assessed to determine the nature and urgency of their concerns. This helps prioritise support based on the level of need, ensuring that those in crisis or experiencing severe distress receive prompt attention.
Drop-in surgeries may offer information about local mental health services, resources, and support groups available in the community. Staff or volunteers may provide signposting to appropriate services based on individual needs and preferences.
For individuals in crisis or experiencing acute mental health crises, drop-in surgeries may offer immediate crisis intervention and support. This could involve de-escalation techniques, safety planning, and referral to emergency mental health services if necessary.
While drop-in surgeries may not provide ongoing therapy or counselling sessions, they can offer short-term emotional support and coping strategies to help individuals manage their immediate concerns and stabilize their emotional wellbeing.
Depending on the individual's needs, drop-in surgeries can offer follow-up appointments, referrals to specialised services, or information about ongoing support options available in the community
